Privacy Policy

Between is a rest timer for lifting. It has no account and no server of its own. This policy covers what the app keeps, what leaves your phone, and why. "We" means the developer of Between, who you can reach at the address at the bottom.
What stays on your phone
- Your sets, rest times, theme, sound, and other settings are saved on your phone.
- How many free workouts you get and how many you've used are saved in your phone's Keychain, so deleting and reinstalling the app doesn't reset them.
- If you get a free month for training with a friend, its end date is saved in your phone's Keychain so it isn't given twice.
None of this is sent to us as it is. The app does send anonymous usage events, described under Usage and crash reports. Deleting the app removes what's on your phone, apart from the Keychain entries, which iOS may keep.
Usage and crash reports
To see which parts of Between get used and to fix crashes, the app sends anonymous events to PostHog, an analytics service. This happens with or without Between Plus. The events say things like "a set was logged with a 90-second rest," "an interval run started with 8 rounds," "the upgrade screen was opened," or "a purchase went through." Crash reports include what the app was doing when it crashed.
Each event carries a random ID made on your phone, your device model, operating system and app version, and your IP address, which PostHog uses to estimate your rough location. Events never include your name, the names you give partners, your contacts, or your payment details. The ID isn't tied to you, your Apple ID, or the ad identifier, and isn't used for ads or shared with anyone for advertising.
PostHog processes this data for us in the United States. Its privacy policy is at https://posthog.com/privacy.
Training together
Linked phones talk to each other directly over nearby Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the same way AirDrop does. They share the name you choose in Train together and the timer, sets, and rest changes for the workout. Nothing goes through the internet or through us.
Texting a friend
When you text a friend the App Store link, iOS shows its own contact picker. Between receives only the one phone number you pick, uses it to fill in the Messages draft, and doesn't keep it. Between never asks for access to your contacts.
Notifications and Siri
Rest alerts are scheduled on your phone and never pass through a server. Siri and Shortcuts requests are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Purchases
Between Plus, whether the monthly subscription or the one-time lifetime pass, is bought and billed through Apple. Between sees only whether you have Plus, never your payment details.
No ads
Between shows no ads, with or without Between Plus. Between never asks to track you and never uses the ad identifier.
Ad measurement
We may advertise Between on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or Apple Ads. To learn which ads bring people who use the app, Between relies on Apple's own privacy-preserving ad measurement:
- If you installed Between after seeing an ad, iOS tells the ad network one number for how far you got, such as "did a workout" or "bought Plus." Apple sends it after a random delay, bundled with other installs, and without your identity, your device, or anything else about you. Between never sees whether you came from an ad.
- Between asks Apple once whether it was installed from an Apple Ads campaign. If it was, the campaign's ID numbers are added to the anonymous usage events above. Apple provides only the campaign, never anything about you.
- To measure its Instagram and Facebook ads, Between includes Meta's SDK. It tells Meta when the app is opened and when Between Plus is bought: which plan, the price, and the currency, or that a free trial started. With that go a random ID the SDK makes on your phone, your device model, operating system, language and time zone, the app version, and your IP address. Meta uses this to report back how many people its ads brought and what they bought, counted together with other people's. Between never asks to track you, so iOS keeps the SDK from using the ad identifier or Meta's tracking address. Meta's privacy policy is at https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Your choices and rights
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access or delete your data or to withdraw consent. The only data we hold is the anonymous usage events; what Meta receives is handled under Meta's privacy policy. Since they aren't tied to your name or account, we usually can't tell which ones are yours, but write to us and we'll help where we can.
- To remove everything Between keeps on your phone, delete the app. A reinstall starts with a new random ID.
Children
Between is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear in the app with a new date at the top.
